Securely erase and remarket old devices

IT asset disposal at ISEC7 is the orderly end of the device lifecycle: old devices are recorded, erased, inspected, and then refurbished, sold on the secondary market or properly recycled. It is designed for organizations that replace smartphones and tablets in refresh cycles and want evidence that no data remains on devices they hand over. Erasure follows NIST SP 800-88, with physical destruction of storage media on request, and every step from collection to reuse is logged. ISEC7 buys back working devices based on a technical and visual assessment; the service connects to Endpoint Lifecycle Management.

Old smartphones still have value

What old smartphones and tablets are still worth

Old smartphones and tablets not only pose data security risks but also hold untapped financial potential. Professional IT remarketing processes allow these devices to be securely erased, sustainably reused, and profitably returned to the market. At the same time, you contribute to resource conservation and e-waste reduction.

All data is erased completely and devices are reset to factory settings. Devices are then thoroughly inspected, refurbished, or properly recycled. Through our buyback program, you benefit from fair prices and additional revenue by selling your devices on the secondary market.

Which standard is used for erasure?

Complete erasure protects your organization against data loss and misuse once devices leave the building. Here is what we do:

  • Data erasure following NIST SP 800-88, with an erasure log.
  • Custom-tailored erasure methods, including physical destruction of data carriers upon request.
  • Comprehensive erasure protocols for complete auditability and transparency.

Sustainability

By reusing your old IT equipment or recycling it responsibly, you contribute to the circular economy:

  • Maximize efficiency through the reuse of functional devices.
  • Conserve resources and reduce electronic waste.
  • Environmentally friendly recycling of defective components.

Buyback based on condition

We turn your old devices into cash:

  • Fair buyback prices, based on technical and visual evaluation.
  • Professional refurbishment for resale on the secondary market.
  • Additional funds to invest in new technologies.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about device disposal

How do I securely wipe old company phones before they leave the organization?

By erasing them with a recognized method such as NIST SP 800-88 and keeping a log as evidence; if a storage medium can no longer be erased, physical destruction is what remains. In ISEC7's IT asset disposal, smartphones and tablets are erased following NIST SP 800-88 and reset to factory settings, and storage media can be physically destroyed on request.

What is NIST SP 800-88?

NIST SP 800-88, "Guidelines for Media Sanitization", is the US National Institute of Standards and Technology's guideline for sanitizing storage media. NIST published Revision 2 on 26 September 2025. ISEC7 erases devices following NIST SP 800-88, with an erasure log.

How can I prove that no data is left on devices we hand over?

With erasure logs and records that show where each device went after it was returned. In ISEC7's IT asset disposal, you receive erasure logs and detailed reports on every step, from collecting the devices to erasure and reuse or resale. They are designed for audit and security requirements.

What should a company do with old smartphones and tablets?

Once the data is erased, there are three routes: refurbish and reuse, sell on the secondary market, or recycle properly. At ISEC7, old devices are recorded, erased and inspected first, then go down one of these three routes. ISEC7 buys back working devices based on a technical and visual assessment.

Can you sell used company smartphones, and how is the price set?

Yes, working devices have a residual value on the secondary market that depends on model and condition. ISEC7 buys them back after a technical and visual assessment, refurbishes them and sells them on the secondary market, and you receive a transparent buyback statement.

How do you dispose of broken smartphones and tablets properly?

Erase the data or destroy the storage medium first, then recycle the hardware properly so the materials inside can be recovered. At ISEC7, defective hardware is recycled properly after erasure, and storage media can be physically destroyed on request.

Does ISEC7 collect the old devices?

Yes, collection is the first step of the documented process. Before that, you and ISEC7 identify the devices together; ISEC7 assesses their condition and drafts a plan for erasure and reuse.

Is it worth it for small quantities?

ISEC7 handles small batches as well as large inventories and tailors the process to your security requirements and sustainability goals. Whether buyback pays off depends on the condition of the devices, which is why the assessment comes first.

How does device disposal relate to Endpoint Lifecycle Management?

It is the last step of the lifecycle. When an employee leaves or a device is replaced, ISEC7 collects it as part of Endpoint Lifecycle Management and passes it on for erasure and remarketing.
